http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3AR1SfYBkk

Sinopsis:

Peter (North) is a popular politician who ends up in jail for embezzlement and sexual scandal. Since then, the life of Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies), his wife after 13 years, it crumbles. Must rebuild his life after suffering the humiliation of appearing in public beside him. To do this, resumed her work as a lawyer at a prestigious law firm, without forgeting her family life. In fact, by all means seek their teens to stand by the scandal. The serie is inspired by a real case: the New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who lost his job over a sex scandal with a luxury prostitute.

Season 1 summary:
As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner, who is interested in rekindling their former relationship. The firm's top litigator and other partner, Diane Lockhart, likes Alicia's work and her connections so she and Will award her with a full-time associate position following a trial period. Alicia beat out Cary Agos, a clever young attorney who takes a job in the state's attorney's office, now bitter and vengeful. Alicia finds an ally and a friend in Kalinda, the firm's tough and mysterious in-house investigator. Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician's scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach and 13-year-old Grace. Now that Peter is back home and planning to run for office again with help from Eli Gold, his cunning image consultant, Alicia continues to redefine herself and her role in her family's life.

The good wife have various notions the main ones are:

  • conjugal power: The relationship between Peter and his wife is deteriorated because he cheated on her. He is condammed to prison for sexual scandal and Alicia feels like her marriage is broken but for instance she didn´t get divorced.
  • law power: In one hand, Alicia Florrick starts working as a counsel for the difense in Stern, Lockhart & Gardner (a law firm). In the other hand Peter was also condammed for political corruption and misappropiation of money. Little by little we found out how much powerfull is the law in US.
  • Love power: Thanks to Will Alicia can work on this firm, Will loves her since the university. There is also the feeling of love between Peter and our main character but this love is not pure the couple has to rebuild this love (husband-wife).
  • Money power: Some cases that Alicia have to defend are about moneyor frauds. His husband is also acused of misappropiation and the firm is sometimes in crisis. So we can see how much the money is important here.
  • Family power: This power is exerced by Alicia becuase she have to learn how to take care about her children alone and the arrest of Peter don't have to divide the family. She work everyday and she tries to defend her children of annoucements referinf to the family.
  • Media power: This notion is present everywhere in the serie. First, there is a lot of newspapers that tells the situation of Alicia's husband and it also involves her and her children. The media and the commercials are also very meaningfull because when Peter can return into work we want to become the governor of Illinois so the campaign is represented by medias.
We can also recognize more signs of power but they are not as important as that we have already mentinned,
The good wife is one of the most succesfull series of the US and the winner of several awards, a very entertaining, realistic and touching story.

THE NOTION OF POWER (as exemplified in Brian De Palma's Redacted movie)

This film talks about the war in Iraq and how U.S. soldiers recruited live the experience. This movie is not acting like I usually do Americans but more like a documentary as it is recorded and sometimes told by a French speaker. Not only chronicles the lives of soldiers but shows all security measures used, the treatment does to the Iraqis and how they live in this period of violence and abuse of U.S power.

Thedifferents powers represented here are:
military power: the american army is represented here and the power of America but also the fear and submission of Iraqis. There is a contrast between the misery in Irak and the American life.
media power: we can see that the camera that is filming the movie and some videos is a soldier's camera or even security camera. The director also introduce in the film Iraqis websites, local news and American websites.

Redacted synopsis:

Director Brian De Palma turns his lens on the Iraq War with this "fictional documentary" about the experience of U.S. soldiers involved in the conflict. Based on a news item about the rape of an Iraqi schoolgirl by wayward grunts assigned to patrol a checkpoint, the film depicts a scenario not unlike the one De Palmacovered in Casualties of War. Shot on high-definition video, Redacted also addresses the ever-evolving manner in which war is covered by the media by focusing on such journalistic innovations as blog coverage and web reporting. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The tablet

Let's start discribing what a tablet is. A tablet is a device that can be used like a computer but it is sometimes better. The tablet is a very simple device with just a tactile screen. A computer has two differentiated  parts: a  key pad and a screen . In the  tablet  the key pad is also included in the screen.

Tablets are also lighter and more useful than personal computers . They can have different sizes from very small to the size of a notebook, so you can carry them in your hand bag or in a litlle walet.

The most innovative concept of tablets is that they can be permanently connected to internet, and that you can download  an endless number of applications. Many software companies in the world are programming applications for almost anything you can think of. These aplications can be games, videos, professional or student applications, utilities, etc.. You can find and download them in the  "app stores". The process is very simple, and you can do it from anywhere. Sometimes you have to pay for the application but many times they are free .

Tablets enable us to read books, magazines, download videos, take notes when you're in class, show the menu to a client in a restaurant and place the order, access your bank accounts, or monitor your health.I find very positive that downloading the newspaper on your tablet, is not only very convenient, but also decreases the paper consumption, making the tablet a great progress in the preservation of the trees.

However, tablets also have some disadvantages that can be a problem.
  •  They are quite expensive, much more than a mobile phone or a computer. This means that tablets are not accesible to many people in the world.
  •  Since the screen is tactile, you can make some mistakes when the size of the text is small. You can zoom in and make the text readable, indeed, but it is annoying.
  •  It's fagile and you must be very careful in handling it to avoid it falls and breaks. Since tablets are so expensive, it is very costly to buy another one or get it repaired.
  •  As opposed to a laptop, where you can plug in an external memory (pen drive, USB), tablets do not allow to do so. This is very irritating when you want to download pictures or music to take to another device.

Nowadays, a tablet can be very helpful at school. both for students and teachers. You can download class books instead of carrying  them in you bag every day. It's cheaper, because downloading a book is less expensive than buying them on paper, and also the rest of brothers / sisters in the family can also use in the future. Also there are plenty of games that can be good for education and estimulate and train your brain as a treatment for different pathologies (visual, memory, psychological....).

In summary, with  a tablet you can carry in a single device all your world: your e-mail, calendar, facebook connection, your favorite music, photos and movies, the book you're reading or the newspaper you download every day. Technology is very important in this world and the tablet has been the last technology revolution we have seen in our daily lives.

Description : This video is structured around two main narrative voices and a character illustrating what the voice-over says while a singer often merely repeats what's just been said.
The setting is a christian home and church, so this particular context is very meaningful. We can notice on various occasions that the main character is addicted to high-technology products, mostly smartphones. He is shown as a family man unable to communicate with his wife, exept through texting. He is also shown as a church-goer incapable of attending worship  without all his phones vibrating all the time, marking him look like he's full of the holy spirit.
Finally, he is depicted as a computer geek whose life has become extremely complicated instead of having been simplified.

Interpretation : Basically, this video means that high technology has become a religion for many people, even christians who are not supposed to be materialistic. Then, in a christian lifestyle, quite a few church goers and believers tend to focus more on materialistic issues rather than spiritual ones. We can add that technology reings supreme for many people who revere it as a God enlightening his followers. The question is, is this a real progress for humankind ?

Description : Two people are stuck on an elevator in a place that seems litterally empty. The man looks upset. He might be an office worker walking to his job.The woman claims that she is already late, so for her, this is the last straw. At one point, she's about to cry and asks for a phone. In short, they both look hopeless.
Interpretation : We can relate this situation to a fairly comon one in real life : getting stuck on an elevator. The difference is that, in this situation, people have the right to panic whereas on an escalator, there is no reason whatsoever to be scared.
This video points out the increasing dependence of human beings on technology. If it goes missing, it is as if a crutch had been taken away from, so these two people cannot even walk up the stairs which would be the normal thing to do. We could think  that technological progress makes humans lazy or at least less prone to taking initiatives.

This document is a cartoon, entitled "The fanatic Geek" made by Chapate. This cartoon is published in International Herald Tribune. We don't have the date of thr document but i is supposed to be recent consedering that it tackles he issue of piracy in inernet.
What catches the eye at first are the principals characters of the scene (the famous person and the teenager). The cartoon is divided in two parts; the first part is from the middle to the left and the second from the middle to the right. At the top of th e first part we can see the logo of Cannes Festival, little by little we can become aware of more hings for example famous people in the red carpet, photographs.... In the midle of the cartoon we apreciate the message of the teenager in a bubble (I love your movies. I've pirated them all!) and also the recipient of the message wich is a person that look so famous with a model next to him. Finally at the second part we discover the atmosphere around there, there is a lot of people cheering and aclaiming this kind of popular people.
The author want us to react  about piracy. Nowadays everyone uses internet to watch or download videos, music, games....meanwhile these things are ilegal. We don't respect the author's right. For being straightforward the message it's a  critic of piracy and tries to prevent us about it.
In my opinion the advertising cartoon is well-designed and tries to make us aware of piracy with humor. I don't thinks that because of this the issue will stop. From my own point of view it's only inform us about the reality nowadays.... it's not going ti impact a lot the readers.
